Some days are more eventful than others. Yesterday my morning started off with the usual uploading of listings, contract negotiations, reviewing of commitments and settlement statements, closings and fielding of phone calls followed by some unexpected events.
I received a call from a college student working on earning her real estate license at Columbus State and one of our talking points referenced Brokers who would not give students the time of day per se’ when it came to answering question required for a student report necessary to pass the class. In the interest of full disclosure, I am not recruiting agents. I believe Brokers have a responsibility to help further the industry by helping others, and answering questions for college students is such a simple way to pay it forward. I spent about an hour not only answering specific questions for her, I also answered a variety of questions she had regarding the industry as a whole, including, but not limited to how to best choose a Brokerage to ensure success, costs associated with starting her career as well as what she could expect when she embarked upon her new career. She was both attentive and appreciative and carefully reviewed her notes with me prior to ending her call.
After lunch I decided to detour and stop at Costco Easton to pick up a few things and was joyously surprised to find one of my daughters out shopping too! We chatted, hugged, finished shopping and each went on our way.
I was not home for more than 10 minutes and my dogs alerted me that someone was on the porch. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised to have two of my wonderful clients, Kevin and Anita, stop by to personally say thank you and deliver a bouquet of flowers! It is truly the little things in life that bring me great joy and inspiration. I am truly blessed.
I wish all of you a lovely day and hope each and everyone of you take a moment to reflect on your blessings and be that positive influence paying it forward.
Respectfully,
Joan Elflein, Broker / Ohio Broker Direct
